Tension rises in Middle East as Saudi Arabia on Sunday 3rd Jan 2016 ejected Iranian diplomats. Saudi Arabia gave the Iranians 48hrs to leave Saudi. This comes after Saudi’s embassy in Iran was attacked over the execution of Shiite cleric al-Nimr, a fervent dissident who called for the deposal of the Sunni Muslim Saudi royal family during the Arab spring uprisings of 2011.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir while addressing a news conference in Riyadh says they will not allow the Islamic republic to undermine its security. Reuters quotes Iranian, Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian saying that by cutting diplomatic ties, Riyadh could not cover up “its major mistake of executing Sheikh Nimr”.
