For the first time since 1987, a Nigerian president is officially handing over to his deputy while embarking on vacation.
According to Garba Sheu, the president’s senior special assistant on media and publicity, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will perform the functions of the president while Muhammadu Buhari’s vacations lasts.
His tweets reads, “In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, President Buhari has dispatched a formal notice of his vacation to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives”.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s vacation is with effect from Friday February 5 to Wednesday February 10, 2016. He is currently in London attending the Supporting Syria Conference with other world leaders.
